Job summary

Tidelands Health is hiring a Histotechnologist I to perform routine histology including fixation, processing, embedding, and staining of human tissue. The role involves immunohistochemistry, QC, LIS usage, and patient safety focus.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years in histology, hospital experience, and proficiency with EPIC and LIS systems. Strong analytical skills and PC proficiency are required. It is a day shift in South Carolina.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.
An Associate's Degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assign correct accession numbers to specimens logged into Histology.
Select the correct processing schedule for each processing run; incorporate delay programs for weekend/holiday operations.
Notify the senior tech of discrepancies with tissue processors and resolve per protocols.
Ensure timely turnaround time and proper tissue orientation in embedding molds.
Cut slides with correct orientation and thickness for tissue type.
Prepare and maintain staining solutions for H&E and special stains to ensure consistent results.
Set up and monitor automated slide stainers to maximize throughput.
Process non-gyn specimens.
Recognize acceptable vs. unacceptable staining and select controls for each case.
Assist pathologist and staff with FNA procedures.
