Job summary

Labcorp seeks a Histotechnician for our San Diego, CA lab on 2nd shift (afternoon) a casual/per diem position with hours as needed. Responsibilities include preparing slides, sectioning tissue with a microtome, and performing immunohistochemical tests to deliver timely, quality results.

Minimum qualifications include an associate’s degree in histology or a high school diploma with 1+ year histology experience and 1 year as a histotechnician. ASCP certifications preferred by Labcorp.

Responsibilities

• Process tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination.
• Prepare histology slides from surgical specimens.
• Section tissue with a microtome and mount on slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on tissue sections.
• Process mounted sections with routine and special stains.
• Maintain and document equipment logs and QC procedures.
• Follow safety and SOPs in the lab.

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in San Diego, CA.

Work Schedule: 2nd shift (afternoon): This is a casual/per diem position; hours will be "as needed" the start and end times will vary

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience
• 1 year of experience as a histotechnician

Preferred Qualification: Current or prior Labcorp experience Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Immunohistochemistry experience
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Pay Range: $36.00 - $41.00 per hour

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

• Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
• Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
