Job summary

Labcorp in Holyoke, MA is seeking a Histotechnician to process tissue and body fluids for microscopic examination and to prepare histology slides with proper staining. The role involves sectioning tissue, performing immunohistochemical tests, and maintaining equipment in a high-volume lab.

The candidate should have an Associate’s degree in Histology or a high school diploma with 1+ year histology experience; 3+ months in histology and IHC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform immunohistochemical tests on FFPE tissue sections.
• Operate and maintain histology instruments; document maintenance.
• Adhere to QC policies and ensure proper specimen handling and processing.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (1p - 9:30p)

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of histology experience
• 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Pay Range

$30.00 – $43.00 per hour + Shift differential All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
