Job summary

Labcorp in Houston is seeking a histology technician to process tissue samples and prepare slides for microscopic review. You will perform immunohistochemical tests and a range of staining procedures, ensuring accurate results and adherence to QC policies.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in Histology or equivalent with 1+ year experience; ASCP certification is preferred, and prior Labcorp experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience.
• ASCP certification and/or Labcorp experience preferred.
• Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam.
• Perform technical duties for histopathological slide production.
• Section embedded tissue with a microtome and mount on slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on FFPE tissue sections.
• Process sections through routine and special staining procedures.
• Orient and embed surgical tissue specimens.
• Prepare stains and reagents for procedures.
• Report accurate results to support patient care.
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
• Document maintenance and quality control activities.
• Record equipment logs and perform preventive maintenance.
• Adhere to QC policies and SOPs.
• Ensure proper specimen handling and processing.

Work Schedule

1st Shift Monday - Friday 4:00am-12:30pm

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years ofhistology experience

Preferred Qualification

• Current or prior Labcorp experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications
• 1 year or more Immunohistochemistry experience

Additional Job Standards

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Immunohistochemistry experience
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
