Job summary

Labcorp in Portland, OR is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team on a casual/per diem basis. The role involves processing tissue, preparing slides, embedding, sectioning, and performing histology and IHC testing to support accurate diagnostic results.

The candidate should have an associate degree in histology or equivalent, with 1+ year histology experience; ASCP histology certification is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently are valued.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination
• Produce histopathology slides from surgical specimens
• Embed, orient, and section tissue with a microtome for slide prep
• Perform histology procedures including H&E and special stains
• Conduct immunohistochemical (IHC) testing on FFPE tissue sections
• Prepare stains, reagents, and solutions for procedures
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instrumentation
• Report accurate test results to support patient care quality
• Maintain equipment logs and comply with SOPs and safety protocols
• Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance

LabCorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Portland,OR Work Schedule: casual/per diem.

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examination
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides from surgical specimens
• Embed, orient, and section tissue using a microtome, ensuring proper slide preparation
• Perform routine histology procedures, including H&E and special staining techniques
• Conduct immunohistochemical (IHC) testing on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections
• Prepare stains, reagents, and solutions required for laboratory procedures
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot manual and automated laboratory instrumentation
• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Maintain accurate equipment logs and documentation
• Follow laboratory SOPs for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting
• Identify, document, and resolve issues that may affect test performance
• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all laboratory safety protocols
• Other related tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP Histology certification
• 1 year or more of experience with routine histology procedures and equipment
• 1 year or more of experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC)
