Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Des Moines, IA, seeks a Histotechnician to perform tissue slide preparation that aids pathologists in diagnosis. You will handle specimen processing, instrument maintenance, and quality initiatives within a busy histology lab.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved histotechnician program OR at least 60 semester hours with biology and chemistry AND one year histopathology experience under supervision of a pathologist.
• Certification as Histotechnician HT (ASCP) is preferred.
• Working schedule: Monday–Friday 6am-2:30pm with rotation of call.

Responsibilities

• Performs all steps in tissue preparation for diagnosis by a pathologist.
• Maintains preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
• Files blocks and slides; supports method evaluation and training.
• Assists with quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
• Operates laboratory information systems and related software; rotates call.
