Job summary

MercyOne is hiring a Cytotechnologist in Des Moines, IA. You will visually evaluate samples and assist with collection, performing routine and specialized diagnostic cytology procedures.

Responsibilities include slide preparation, slide interpretation for gynecologic and non-gynecologic samples, troubleshooting equipment, and maintaining quality control. Strong communication, organization and familiarity with Word/Excel are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science-related field.
• Successful completion of an accredited cytotechnology program.
• Certification as a Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP) is required.
• Exam must be completed within six months of hire.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Visually evaluate and assist with collection of cell samples from patients of diverse ages.
• Perform routine and special diagnostic procedures related to cancer detection.
• Prepare cytological slides (Pap smears, body fluids, BAL, brushings, washings, FNAs, cyst fluids, CSF, urine).
• Examine and diagnose non-gynecologic and gynecologic slides for infections, pre-malignant, malignant processes.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and resolve technical issues.
• Monitor and resolve cytology cases to maintain turnaround time.
• Follow quality control measures and procedures.
• Train new employees.
