Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa in Des Moines is seeking a Medical Technologist Lead Hematology Tech to provide technical leadership in the laboratory and oversee daily operations.

This full-time day shift role involves mentoring staff, collaborating with Pathologists, and ensuring quality controls across hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis. MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, founded in 1893, is a major regional center; relocation is possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science-related field.
• Four years of clinical laboratory experience, with at least one year in the specified section.
• Completion of NAACLS or ABHES accredited program or equivalent path.
• Certification: MLS/MT by ASCP or MT by AMT.

Responsibilities

• Serves in a leadership role and oversees daily operations of the assigned laboratory section.
• Acts as a resource for technical personnel in hematology, coagulation and urinalysis.
• Collaborates closely with on-site Pathologists and mentors staff.
• Assists with orientation and training, instrument implementation, and QA activities.
• Performs testing, maintenance, and ensures safety and quality assurance.
• Promotes initiatives and supports education and troubleshooting.
