Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Histotechnologist to prepare tissue sections for microscopic review, coordinating with pathologists and residents. The role emphasizes accurate embedding, sectioning, staining, and documenting in the LIS, while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a life sciences field and HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility. CAP histology experience is preferred, and the successful candidate will support teaching of students

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, chemical, life sciences, medical laboratory technology, or histology.
• HTL (ASCP) certification or HTL (ASCP) eligible. If eligible must take and pass the national certifying exam within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs cassette-log reconciliation and manages processor alarms per SOP.
• Embeds biopsy, routine surgical, and autopsy tissues per SOP and assesses processing adequacy.
• Documents tracking, quality issues, and specimen handling throughout the process.
• Operates microtome and staining instrumentation to produce diagnostic slides.
• Participates in laboratory safety, quality investigations, and regulatory compliance.
