Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, perform fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining, and support immunohistochemistry.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in a biological/chemical/clinical laboratory science and HT/ASCP certification preferred, with at least one year of hospital lab experience. Nights shifts with rotating weekends are offered, along with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science with histotechnology training.
• HT/ASCP Certification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Minimum of one year hospital laboratory work experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including fixation, processing, embedding, and microtomy.
• Perform routine and special staining procedures according to established protocols.
• Assist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and related procedures as applicable.
• Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and tracking throughout all stages of processing.
• Maintain quality and integrity of tissue samples to support accurate diagnosis.
