NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue, NY, seeks a Laboratory Assistant - Histology to support day-to-day lab operations. The role includes specimen handling, processing, inventory management, instrument maintenance, and coordination with providers and other labs.

Per Diem with Monday–Friday shifts, focusing on front-end and back-end sample processing and proper waste disposal. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with biology/chemistry credits, basic computer skills (Excel/Word),

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluids.
• Knowledge of computer applications (Excel and Word).
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with day-to-day operation, providing clinical, clerical and inventory support.
• Assist Pathology Department with daily maintenance, receipt of bodies and morgue upkeep.
• Maintain supplies and reagents; notify supervisor when stock runs low.
• Front-end processing of samples: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport, and platform prep.
• Back-end processing: storage, tracking, and disposal per policy.
• Dispose of all department waste per procedures.
• Maintain temperature and humidity logs for equipment and areas.
• Review routine and stat pending lists and retrieve missed tests/specimens.
• Answer phones and provide information on tests, availability, and turnaround times.
• Access automated test platforms to check status of samples.
• Assist shipping of blood and body fluids to other sites.
• Inventory management of blood products (receiving, stocking, expiration).
• Other duties as assigned.
