Job summary

NeoGenomics Laboratories in Aliso Viejo, CA is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in the Histology department. This entry-level position supports technologists, performing basic lab tasks, data recording, and sample handling.

The role emphasizes safety in a biohazard environment, accuracy in documentation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting. Shift is Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00pm–5:30am, subject to change.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; emphasis on science courses preferred
• Previous experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred
• General knowledge on using MS Office programs
• Effective communication skills and strong organization skills
• Detailed oriented and willingness to work independently
• Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
• Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• No certification required

Responsibilities

• Records information in laboratory log books and accession sheets to ensure specimen QA
• Operates basic laboratory tasks and prints labels under supervision
• Prepares reagents and monitors safety procedures
• Maintains cleanliness of lab and equipment
• Maintains department inventory and orders supplies as needed
• Resolves pending lists and locates missing samples
• Performs filing, mailing and copying tasks
• Disposes of biohazardous materials according to procedures
• Completes training and competency checklists
• Sends/receives cases to/from satellite labs
• Loads/unloads some automated testing procedures
• Assists with quality improvement or safety programs
• Reports problems to supervisor to ensure timely resolution
