Job summary

NeoGenomics is looking for a Laboratory Assistant for our Histology department in Houston, TX who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow.

The Laboratory Assistant will assist the department technologist in performing various basic laboratory procedures in an entry level role; shifts are Monday–Friday, 8:00pm–4:30am and duties include maintaining logs, handling samples, and supporting quality and safety initiatives in a fast-paced clinical lab.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; emphasis on science courses preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred.
• General knowledge on using MS Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Records required information in laboratory log books and specimen sheets.
• Operates basic laboratory equipment and prints extra labels.
• Prepares reagents under supervision of a certified technologist.
• Maintains cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
• Maintains department inventory and orders supplies.
• Resolves pending lists and locates missing samples.
• Performs filing, mailing, and copying tasks as needed.
• Disposes of biohazardous material according to procedures.
• Completes training and competency checklists as needed.
• Sends and receives cases to and from satellite laboratories.
• Loads, runs and unloads some automated testing procedures.
• Assists with quality improvement or safety programs.
• Reports problems to supervisor or lead technologist for timely resolution.
