Job summary

NeoGenomics Laboratories, Inc. in Aliso Viejo, CA is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to support the Histology department in a fast-paced, entry-level role. You will assist technologists with basic procedures and ensure accurate record-keeping.

This position emphasizes learning and development with on-the-job training, a supportive team, and opportunities to grow within a cancer reference laboratory.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; emphasis on science courses preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred.
• General knowledge on using MS Office programs.
• Effective communication skills and strong organization skills.
• Detail oriented and willingness to work independently.
• Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards.
• Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• No certification required.

Responsibilities

• Records required information in laboratory log books and accession sheets to ensure quality.
• Operates equipment, prints labels, records data, and handles specimen storage and retrieval.
• Prepares reagents for procedures under supervision of a certified technologist.
• Maintains cleanliness and operability of laboratory and equipment.
• Maintains department inventory and orders supplies as needed.
• Resolves pending lists and finds missing samples.
• Performs filing, mailing, and copying tasks as needed.
• Disposes of biohazardous material according to procedures.
• Completes training and competency checklists as needed.
