Job summary

Qualifications

• CLIA education requirements per 42 CFR Part 493 Subpart M stated in the job posting.
• Must meet one of the listed education options (MD/DO or approved lab science degree).
• Alternate pathways include an associate degree in relevant science or MLT, or high school with military medical lab training.
• Additional pathway: high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Embeds, cuts and stains processed tissue.
• Cuts and stains frozen tissue.
• Processes and stains fluids for cytology.
• Assists with bone marrow biopsies and prepares samples for microscopy.
• Obtains specimens from surgery and logs with accession numbers.
• Charges for procedures and manages slides, blocks and reports.
• Performs gross evaluation of surgical specimens.
• Orders supplies and maintains histology/cytology workup.
• Maintains equipment and performs routine maintenance.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.

Education

Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy license or approved lab science/medical technology degree

Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or Medical Laboratory Technology

High school diploma with 50-week military medical lab course and Medical Laboratory Specialist

High school diploma or equivalent
