Job summary

ST. CHARLES HEALTH SYSTEM in Bend, Oregon is seeking an entry-level HIM Specialist I to support health information management operations. You will work with staff and external partners to ensure timely and accurate handling of confidential medical data.

This role handles requests for release of information, scans and indexes records, maintains PHI/HIPAA compliance, and supports quality assurance while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• College or vocational education preferred.
• Typing skills and attention to detail essential.
• Experience with MS Office and electronic health records is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Professionally answers inbound department calls and responds to requests.
• Processes walk-in requests and assists patients with releasing information.
• Maintains patient records in electronic and paper formats.
• Retrieves medical records as needed from hospital departments.
• Preps, scans and indexes records for electronic storage and PHI handling.
• Ensures accuracy and completeness of ED records per guidelines.
• Provides release of information for continuing care requests.
• Maintains confidentiality of medical records per hospital policy and law.
