Job summary

Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL is seeking an HIM Specialist to join our Health Information Management team. You will manage and safeguard patient medical records, from scanning and indexing to data entry and analysis, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.

This role is ideal for someone organized, tech‑comfortable, and committed to data privacy, whether starting in HIM or bringing experience from medical records management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate/bachelor in HIM/HIT preferred.
• RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
• Experience with EHR systems and data entry basics.
• Excellent customer service and knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Collect, organize, and maintain physical and electronic medical records
• Accurately enter and manage data within the MEDHOST EHR system
• Handle record preparation, scanning, indexing, abstracting, and retrieval
• Analyze paper and electronic records for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and all relevant regulations
• Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
