Job summary

Carolinas Medical Center is seeking a full-time Health Information Management/ Lab Data Abstracting role in Milwaukee, WI. The position involves navigating EHRs, reviewing lab reports, and accurately abstracting and entering data to support patient care, care management initiatives, and billing processes.

Qualified candidates typically have 1–2 years of relevant health information management experience, familiarity with Epic and related systems, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
• Typically requires 1–2 years of experience in Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory, or related healthcare setting.
• Proficient with Epic, Extract LabDE, Solarity, OnBase, Microsoft 365 and legacy archives.

Responsibilities

• Navigate EHRs and computer apps to support patient care, revenue cycle, and regulatory requirements.
• Sort, prepare, and scan clinical documentation into the EHR per HIM procedures.
• Identify and classify lab tests, enter data, and validate orders and results in the EHR.
• Ensure PHI security and HIPAA compliance in handling electronic and physical records.
• Adapt to new lab tests, parameters, and regulatory changes; escalate issues timely.
• Perform QA of scanned docs to ensure correct patient, encounter, and document type.
