Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Highway & Traffic Department in Wall or Newark, NJ. This role involves designing highway projects from concept through construction and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate has 4–8 years of highway design experience, a NJ PE license, and proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation). Relocation is not offered; sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• 4–8 years of progressive highway/roadway design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey required.
• Experience on county and/or municipal projects, including state or federal funding.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation; OpenRoads a plus.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO and NJDOT roadway design standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee roadway and highway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Perform geometric design, grading, drainage coordination, and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines including civil/site, traffic, structural, environmental, and utility teams.
• Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers and designers.
• Attend client meetings and coordinate with public agencies including state agencies, counties, and municipalities.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal design standards and procedures.
• Support proposal preparation and business development efforts as needed.
