Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Highway & Traffic Department in Wall or Newark, NJ. This role offers the opportunity to lead highway design projects from concept through construction, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and clients while advancing technical expertise and ownership of project deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
• 4–8 years of progressive highway/ roadway design experience.
• PE license in the State of New Jersey is required.
• Experience on county and municipal projects; state or federal funding familiarity.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation; OpenRoads is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO and NJDOT roadway design standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee roadway and highway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Perform geometric design, grading, drainage coordination, and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines including civil/site, traffic, structural, environmental, and utility teams.
• Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers and designers.
• Attend client meetings and coordinate with public agencies including state agencies, counties, and municipalities.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal design standards and procedures.
• Support proposal preparation and business development efforts as needed.
