Job summary

The State of Indiana invites applications for a Highway Technician with the Shelbyville Unit. This entry-level role supports highway maintenance, trash pickup, pothole filling, drainage upkeep, and winter operations to keep Indiana roads safe and clean.

Overtime is mandatory for emergencies; CDL with endorsements is preferred and may add pay. A CDL must be obtained within 90 days if not currently held. Benefits are extensive for full-time employees, with a focus on work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or B CDL or obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and endure physical activity.
• Ability to work in a team and follow directions.
• Ability to operate basic highway/traffic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Follow INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain roads and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations and snow/ice removal.
• Assist with emergency response and traffic control; erect signs and barricades.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
