Job summary

The State of Indiana, through INDOT, is seeking a Highway Technician at the Chandler Unit to perform general maintenance on Indiana highways. You will handle trash removal, pothole filling, drainage upkeep, and winter operations, with mandatory overtime for emergencies.

Entry-level role with opportunities for career advancement; CDL within 90 days is required. CDL training is provided on-site, and the position offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment and follow safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain basic highway maintenance/traffic equipment to keep highways and rights-of-way clean and safe.
• Perform winter/seasonal duties including snow and ice removal.
• Assist with traffic control during emergencies and road closures.
• Move and load supplies and materials; inspect and maintain equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
