Job summary

The State of Indiana, through INDOT, is hiring a Highway Technician for the New Castle Unit. The role involves maintaining Indiana highways, performing winter operations, traffic control, and routine maintenance tasks. A valid CDL is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days.

Overtime is mandatory for emergencies, including winter operations. The position offers an hourly starting rate around $20.00, with CDL incentives and opportunities for career advancement within a large state

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities for long periods.
• Ability to work as part of a team and endure inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and rights‑of‑way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations, snow and ice removal.
• Assist with traffic control during emergencies and road closures.
