Job summary

The State of Indiana’s INDOT Columbus Unit seeks a Highway Technician to perform general maintenance on Indiana highways, including pothole repairs, drainage work, and snow removal. Entry-level role with overtime for emergencies and a path for career advancement.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid CDL (Class A or B) or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to operate traffic equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of inventory control systems may be required for some assignments.
• A degree is not required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate basic highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow/ice removal.
• Perform emergency response activities such as traffic control and signage.
• Perform routine inspections and equipment maintenance.
