Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Highway Technician Assistant I in Hodgenville, KY to support maintenance and construction tasks along state roadways. The role includes learning in-field techniques and opportunities for advancement, with on-the-job and classroom training.

Eligible for overtime, 40 hours per week, pay $17.95 per hour. High school diploma required; must obtain CDL Class A within a year and complete essential safety trainings.

By joining our Larue County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field training to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance operations and help maintain 190 miles of state roadways in Larue County.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Haul materials to and from job sites.

• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
