Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a capable Heavy Equipment Operator to support road construction, repair, and maintenance across the state highway system. Responsibilities include operating dump trucks, asphalt kettles, and rollers, plus forming, pouring, and finishing concrete features.

Applicants must hold a valid driver's license, obtain a CDL-A within six months, and be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. Weekend or overtime work may be required in emergencies.

Qualifications

• No formal minimum training or experience required.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required; CDL-A within 6 months.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Dump Truck and perform grading and concrete work on roads.
• Set forms, pour and finish concrete for curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
• Operate Asphalt Kettle and Small Roller for pavement maintenance.
• Assist in traffic control and act as a flagger in work zones.
• Assist in laying drainage pipes and perform clean-up and weather emergency tasks.
