Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to perform skilled manual labor and operate medium-duty equipment on the state highway system. You will coordinate traffic control devices to establish safe work zones in accordance with SCDOT manuals and field guides, and assist in emergency or weather-related operations.

The role may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts and involves lifting up to 50 lbs, outdoor exposure in all weather conditions, and possible overtime

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium duty equipment such as larger roller and tandem dump truck in road construction, repair, and preservation on the state highway system.
• Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT manuals and field guide to warn motorists.
