Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to perform construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. You will operate motorized equipment and assist with drainage, vegetation management, and signage installations.

The role requires one year of related experience, a valid driver's license, and obtaining a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

  • One year of related work experience or equivalent.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
  • Physically demanding with lifting up to 50 lbs and outdoor work in all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance activities in construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
  • Operate motorized equipment used in construction and maintenance.
  • Move materials and supplies for maintenance activities.
  • Operate heavy equipment (grader, backhoe, dozer, excavators, slope mowers) in highway maintenance operations.
  • Patch roadway base/surface, remove fallen trees, and perform vegetation management on right-of-way.
  • Install, repair, and maintain signs and sign foundations; assist with curb, gutter, and sidewalk work.
