Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a full-time highway maintenance worker to operate a tandem dump truck and perform skilled manual labor for road and bridge preservation.

Candidates must have at least six months of related experience or an approved equivalence, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors, and may encounter overtime or night shifts during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates a tandem dump truck for hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium duty equipment for road/bridge work.
• Picks up litter, debris and dead animals along rights-of-way.
• Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations; may include extended hours and 12-hour shifts.
