Job summary

Washington County seeks a dedicated Highway Laborer for the West Bend Shop to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance on highways, bridges, and roadsides. The role includes patrolling, debris removal, and equipment operation in varied shifts across seasons.

Minimum qualifications include a Wisconsin CDL A with air brake and N endorsement (or ability to obtain), plus 2–3 years of related experience. A pre-employment drug test is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
• Valid Wisconsin driver's license with clean record for past three years.
• Possession of a valid Wisconsin Class A CDL (manual) with air brake and N endorsement, or ability to obtain within six months.
• Two to three years of full-time relevant maintenance/repair experience preferred.
• Ability to perform strenuous manual duties and pass pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment for snow removal and salting under icy conditions, including post-storm cleanup.
• Concrete and asphalt repairs to roads and bridges; paving and shoulders; centerline painting.
• Operate equipment such as front end loader, salt spreader, dump truck, grader, chainsaws, etc.
• Patrol highways, remove debris, inspect road conditions, and manage sections of roadway.
• Mow, spray, trim vegetation, clean culverts, and maintain roadside rights of way.
• Maintain records, perform routine inspections, and assist with emergency responses.
