Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to perform skilled manual labor on roads and bridges, including mowing, brush management, line-of-sight clearing, and operation of medium equipment. You will assist with traffic control setup and after-hours emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities include lifting up to 50 lbs, working in inclement weather, and complying with safety guidelines under the Work Zone Manual.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license; CDL Class A required within six months.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled manual labor related to construction, repair and preservation of roads and bridges.
• Operates hand tools and medium equipment (e.g., tandem dump truck, large mower) as needed.
• Coordinates traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones per SCDOT manuals.
• Assists in after-hours emergencies and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours.
• Lifts heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
