The State of New Hampshire is hiring a Highway Maintainer III for the Turnpikes in Newington, NH. This full-time role involves operating and maintaining heavy highway equipment, performing critical winter maintenance, and supervising entry-level crews.

Qualifying candidates hold a CDL-A with tank endorsement and meet MVR standards. A pre-employment drug screen is required, and flexibility for 24/7 operations is expected.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: 1 year post-high school education/experience combination
• CDL-A with tank endorsement and MVR standards
• Pre-employment drug screen per CFR and US DOT requirements
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs intermittently
• Must have phone or other communication and be available 24/7

Responsibilities

• Operate and troubleshoot complex highway maintenance equipment and vehicles, including snow/ice removal and seasonal road work.
• Maintain equipment, perform repairs, and report issues to supervisor.
• Assess winter conditions and decide actions for plowing and abrasives per safety policies.
• Supervise and train small crews to ensure safe methods and compliance.
• Perform duties under challenging conditions with high-speed traffic and adverse weather.
