Job summary

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District 6, seeks a Highway Maintainer III in Exeter/Durham area. The role operates and troubleshoots heavy highway equipment for year-round maintenance and emergency traffic services.

Minimum is an equivalent combination of education and experience with a valid CDL-A and tank endorsement; MVR checks and pre-employment requirements apply. Training and supervision of entry-level staff are included.

Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after high school.
• Valid CDL-A with tank endorsement.
• MVR must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.
• Ability to lift/carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis.

Responsibilities

• Operates and troubleshoots complex highway maintenance/construction equipment and machinery used for highway maintenance and emergency traffic services.
• Maintains assigned equipment and performs field repairs and adjustments as needed.
• Responds to winter maintenance and traffic emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
• Supervises small crews and entry-level workers to ensure safety and environmental practices.
• Travels across varying terrain performing heavy physical labor and equipment maintenance.
