Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator/Truck Driver for roadway maintenance across counties. You will operate CDL trucks and support vehicles during shoulder work, pothole patching, paving, drainage, and bridge-related tasks.

Requires a valid CDL Class A license (within 6 months if not held), ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and endurance for outdoor, variable weather conditions. Emergency shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Operate 5 yard CDL standard dump truck and flatbed for hauling during road repairs and related tasks.
• Assist in operating heavier equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, graders, and other machinery.
• Perform manual labor: clearing right-of-ways, patching potholes, laying pipes, and drainage work.
• Assist in emergency operations and be available for extended hours or shifts as needed.
• Inspect vehicles/equipment pre-operation and participate in routine maintenance.
• Flag traffic to protect workers and public during road repairs.
