Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator to perform skilled highway maintenance and repair across multiple counties. A U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program is available; CDL is required and progression depends on hours, training, and performance.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or Class B CDL required.
• No substitutions for the Equipment Operator CDL requirement.
• Experience with highway maintenance equipment preferred.
• Ability to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment and attachments.
• Perform minor mechanical repairs in the field.
• Repair and construct culverts, patch cement, pavement and bridge decks.
• Maintain equipment and cleanliness; service fuel as needed.
• Flagging and traffic control on projects.
