Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an equipment operator at the Lexington Maintenance West Columbia Section Shed. You will operate tandem dump trucks to haul equipment and materials, ensure tarps and debris are cleared, and perform routine maintenance to SC DOT standards.

Responsibilities include litter pickup, asphalt repair, guardrail and fence maintenance, right-of-way clearing, and assisting in complex work zones with traffic devices per MUTCD.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• CDL class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate tandem dump trucks to haul equipment and materials to and from the jobsite.
• Ensure tarps are in place and remove loose material from truck sides before operation.
• Perform preventive maintenance and keep records of it.
• Assist in constructing complex work zones with traffic devices per MUTCD for Interstate routes.
• Work may include night shifts during certain interstate restrictions (I-20, I-26, I-77).
• May operate jet vac for catch basin cleaning on I-20, I-26, I-77.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions; lift up to 50 lbs; extended shifts possible.
