Job summary

The Dane County Highway and Transportation Department is seeking a full-time Skilled Laborer - Highway to operate heavy equipment for construction and maintenance of streets, roads, and bridges in Dane County. Work hours vary seasonally, and emergencies may require night, holiday, and weekend shifts.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of relevant road repair experience, or 2 years in a related field, with at least 6 months of loader operation experience.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience in repair/maintenance of roads or two years in construction/maintenance-related field.
• Six months of experience operating loaders or equivalent equipment.
• Participation in a Dane County Highway internship program meets minimums.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy motorized equipment such as graders, loaders, backhoes, road rollers, snow plows, trucks and cranes.
• Performs road construction/repair tasks including pothole repair, pavement repair and drainage work.
• Ensures equipment is serviced with gas, oil, water and lubricants; conducts minor repairs and maintenance.
