Job summary

HNTB is seeking an Engineering Department Lead to guide a professional discipline as it designs, develops, and delivers major infrastructure projects. You will manage scope, budget and quality, while mentoring staff and coordinating across offices to meet client needs.

This role emphasizes strategic planning, staff development, andalignment with HNTB's project delivery processes (SSA, SCA, SDA). Visa sponsorship may be available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10 years of practical experience including 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Strong leadership and people management skills are required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops, monitors and manages the department operating budget and forecast updates.
• Leads discipline-specific engineering department, staffing and staff development.
• Supports strategic planning, SSA, SCA and SDA processes on projects.
• Oversees contracting activities, scope, work plans and fee reviews.
• Directs project delivery, planning, scheduling, and quality control to satisfy clients.
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains department staff and oversees performance reviews.
• Manages project management activities including scope, schedule, budget and quality.
• Leads multiple teams of 15–20+ employees and coordinates work across offices.
