Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader for highway design within the New England Transportation team. The position can be located in Boston, MA, East Hartford, CT, or Manchester, NH and will lead design projects while mentoring junior staff.

You will develop criteria, alignments, plans, specs, and cost estimates, collaborating with Project Leaders and Managers to deliver high-complexity projects in a compliant, timely manner. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: Coordinate the technical advancement of highway design projects, communicate the vision for final deliverables, and ensure technical accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
• Oversee transportation planning and design projects, ensuring milestones and quality standards are met.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance, training, and support.
• Design Development: Develop design criteria, alignments, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Collaboration: Work with Project Leaders and Project Managers to deliver high-complexity projects.
• Compliance: Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; sign and seal as required.
• Site Studies: Perform site reviews and updates as needed; assist in proposals.
