Job summary

Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Analyst to review, update, and validate HPMS data for FHWA submissions. You will develop procedures for year-end closures, use Access to summarize inventory, and create GIS plots and reports to support accuracy and compliance.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, familiarity with ArcGIS, and strong planning and communication skills. Occasional statewide travel is expected as part of the duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or two years college plus two years of experience in research, GIS, extracting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
• Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS or other GIS systems is preferred.
• Strong planning, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Review, update, and validate HPMS data to ensure accuracy for annual submittal.
• Develop procedures for year-end inventory closure and HPMS data submission to FHWA.
• Use MS Access to summarize inventory data and respond to user requests.
• Interpret HPMS requirements to ensure Illinois data complies with FHWA guidelines.
• Coordinate with district and central offices and FHWA for data requirements.
• Create GIS-based plots and reports to support inventory data reviews.
• Maintain a statistically balanced sample size for HPMS road segments.
• Perform duties in compliance with safety rules and department policies.
