Job summary

Covenant House Texas is seeking a skilled Cook to join our Food Services team. You will prepare diverse menu items, follow standardized recipes, and maintain a clean, well-organized kitchen.

The role requires strong knife skills, attention to portioning, and adherence to safety procedures. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down stations, assisting with receiving and storage, and supporting batch cooking for timely service.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of cooking in a high-volume or institutional setting.
• Ability to follow recipes, production plans and safety standards.
• Food Handler Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and production sheets.
• Set up, maintain and break down assigned stations.
• Ensure proper portioning, presentation and temperature control.
• Assist with receiving, labeling and storing food products.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Communicate product shortages, equipment issues, or resident concerns to the Chef/Manager.
• Support batch cooking and timely service throughout their shift.
• Assist with training new team members as needed.
• Work collaboratively with Stewards to maintain an efficient workflow.
• Serve the youth with a spirit of warm hospitality.
