Job summary

Newton Public Schools at Newton South High School in Newton, MA seeks a Special Education Teacher for a long-term substitute role for the remainder of the 26-27 school year. The teacher will provide educational programming for high school students with disabilities, may serve as case manager, and collaborate with regular education staff.

Qualifications

Requires licensure defined by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process.
Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Commitment to helping all students succeed, including minority and low socio-economic students.

Responsibilities

Teach high school students with special needs and implement IEP goals.
Conduct IEP meetings and complete related paperwork timely.
Monitor progress and revise IEP accordingly.
Co-teach in regular education or teach a substantially separate class.
Prepare students for post-high school transitions.
Communicate with school staff and parents.
Attend department and school meetings.
Maintain reliable and punctual attendance.
