Qualifications

• Must possess good communication skills and have the ability to work with students and parents.
• Paraprofessionals are required to obtain 60 college credit hours or one of the prescribed assessments.
• Experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• 1. The length of the day and calendar shall be determined by the district.
• 2. Become familiar with the teaching procedures and schedule.
• 3. Assist in devising strategies to reinforce materials.
• 4. Provide escort and assistance to children as needed.
• 5. Check students’ work, correct papers, and supervise tests.
• 6. Assist with clothing, movement, and restroom routines.
• 7. Operate teaching aids (VCR, DVD, computer, assistive tech).
• 8. Alert teacher to problems or special information about a student.
• 9. Assist with clerical duties including data for goals.
• 10. Participate in workshops, in-service training and IEP meetings.
• 11. Assist with lunch, snack, clean-up, and toilet routines.
• 12. Assist with health-related procedures as trained.
• 13. Assist in managing students with challenging behaviors.
• 14. Participate in Safe Crisis Management when trained.
• 15. Work with students in small groups to reinforce learning.
• 16. Maintain a learning-conducive environment.
• 17. Monitor the classroom during IEP meetings and staffings.
• 18. Observe and follow the student management plan.
• 19. Assist in managing students in various settings.
• 20. Prepare teaching materials during the day as directed.
• 21. Report to teacher/case manager on student programs.
• 22. Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
