Job summary

Uwharrie Charter Academy is seeking an enthusiastic Exceptional Children’s (EC) Teacher for its high school (grades 9–12). The role focuses on hands-on learning, high student engagement, and individualized instruction to support students with diverse learning needs.

The successful candidate will collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to implement IEPs and ensure services meet federal and NC requirements. Strong organizational skills and a growth mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires NC licensure in Exceptional Children/Special Education.
• Strong knowledge of IEP development, accommodations, modifications, and progress monitoring.
• Experience delivering hands-on, student-centered instruction to diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, individualized instruction and intervention for grades 9–12 with diverse learning needs.
• Develop engaging, hands-on learning experiences to promote participation, independence, problem-solving, and confidence.
• Implement accommodations, modifications and instructional strategies aligned with IEPs.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEPs in accordance with state requirements.
• Set meaningful, measurable goals based on assessment data and needs.
• Maintain documentation, progress data, service records, and IEP paperwork.
• Monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to provide inclusive learning opportunities.
• Participate in professional learning team meetings and problem-solving.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff.
• Communicate regularly with families about progress and growth needs.
• Participate in IEP meetings and communicate student needs and progress.
