Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking a Competitive Cheerleading Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of the program. This role emphasizes a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes under the Athletic Director and building principal oversight.

The ideal candidate will have coaching experience, teaching credentials or ASEP/NFHS certification, and a commitment to IHSA safety standards, CPR/AED readiness,

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) or ASEP/NFHS certification.
• Compliance with CPR and AED certification for high school coaches as required by IHSA.
• IHSA-mandated concussion awareness training and other safety protocols.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance per Illinois School Code.
• Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws in athletics.
• In-depth knowledge of the sport and coaching methods.
• Coaching certification required for non-teaching staff (ASEP/NFHS/IHSA-approved).
• Concussion certification valid for two years typically.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Coach in designing skill-development drills and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique and effort.
• Assist with game-day logistics and equipment setup.
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment; manage repairs and storage.
• Monitor IHSA rules and safety protocols including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and required documentation.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Participate in preseason meetings and post-season tasks such as equipment returns.
