Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 seeks a Varsity Competitive Cheerleading Head Coach to lead a comprehensive program under the Athletic Director. You will guide student-athletes, collaborate with staff, and promote a disciplined, positive team culture.

The role requires coaching experience, IHSA knowledge, and a valid Illinois teaching or coaching certification. Employment is contingent on enrollment, funding, and district approval, with a stipend per the CBA.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) or ASEP/NFHS Certification.
• CPR and AED certification per IHSA requirements.
• IHSA concussion training and safety protocols.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance.
• Title IX training required.
• In-depth knowledge of competitive cheerleading and safety.
• Prior successful coaching experience in cheerleading.
• Strong instructional skills in fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning.
• Commitment to diverse, inclusive athletic program.
• Coaching certification for non-teaching staff (ASEP/NFHS/IHSA approved).
• Concussion certification valid for two years.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all aspects of the Competitive Cheerleading program.
• Demonstrate leadership, supervision, and organizational skills.
• Foster an inclusive environment for students, faculty, coaches, and parents.
• Maintain positive relations with stakeholders and public.
• Inspire student-athletes and staff by modeling dedication and professionalism.
• Plan and implement training programs based on best practices.
• Instruct athletes and assistants in fundamentals, team strategies, and safety protocols.
• Enforce standards of conduct and sportsmanship.
• Ensure compliance with IHSA, ISBE, and FLSA rules where applicable.
• Support academic eligibility and mentor students.
• Develop budget and equipment plans with Athletic Director.
• Maintain inventory and oversee equipment care.
• Assist in game-day preparations and scheduling.
• Coordinate purchasing with Athletics and Principal offices.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
