Job summary

Johnson Controls in Grand Forks, ND, seeks a Maintenance Technician to assist in operating and maintaining high-pressure boiler systems in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. You'll monitor equipment, perform routine inspections, and support preventive maintenance while ensuring safe, efficient steam production to support facility operations.

The role requires basic mechanical/electrical maintenance knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively in a team.
• Proficiency with basic computer systems for documentation and record keeping.
• Physical ability to perform maintenance-related tasks, including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Availability for emergency call-backs and shift coverage on a 24/7 basis.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Valid driver's license, if required for site operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of a high-pressure steam generation plant, ensuring safe, reliable production of steam.
• Monitor and adjust boiler fuel-air mixtures, pump pressures, tank levels, and related systems for efficiency and safe operation.
• Support maintenance activities on boiler systems and related equipment, including cleaning, inspections, repairs, and preventive tasks.
• Maintain accurate operating records, shift logs, fuel usage reports, and system data entry using computerized systems.
• Respond to call-backs as needed to maintain staffing coverage and continuous plant operation.
• Prepare and organize materials required for maintenance and operational activities based on work orders.
• Set up and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment to support plant operations.
• Assist with inventory management and requisitioning of supplies and equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures, environmental requirements, and company policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to process improvements.
• Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and facility teams to meet performance objectives.
