Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment, erect traffic control signs, and manage daily logs. You will prepare road work zones, verify SCMUTD compliance, and maintain supplies for daily operations while working in varied weather conditions.

The role requires at least one year of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates backhoe or heavy equipment as needed.
• Erects and replaces official traffic control signs on Department right-of-way.
• Ensures signs are in conformance with SCMUTD.
• Keeps daily records of work on log sheet or I-Pad.
• Sets up traffic control for road closures and work zones.
• Checks stock of signs, posts, and materials daily.
