Job summary

The 345 Department of Transportation seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Ada, OK area, with work at Johnston County Maintenance Unit, Tishomingo, OK. The role reports to the Road Maintenance Supervisor and is non-exempt, full-time.

Experience operating heavy equipment, maintenance ability, and the ability to perform manual labor are required. A valid Oklahoma driver’s license is necessary; CDL may be required for certain assignments.

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating heavy equipment (Level II).
• No formal education required for Level I; experience drives advancement.
• Valid Oklahoma driver's license; CDL may be required depending on the unit.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, and other heavy machinery as needed.
• Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repair roadway shoulders, bridge decks, signs, posts, guardrails and fences as required.
• Provide traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
• Apply herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds and other vegetation.
• Remove debris including tires, animal carcasses, spilled items and other obstacles.
