345 Department of Transportation in District 3 is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate trucks, graders, dozers, backhoes and other heavy machinery for highway maintenance and repair. The role involves safe operation, traffic control, and routine servicing of equipment.

Two levels exist: Level II requires 1 year of heavy equipment experience, Level I requires none. CDL endorsements may be required; the job emphasizes safety and efficient highway maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• Level II requires 1 year of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Level I requires no experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, loaders, cranes and backhoes.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repairs failures in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
• Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
• Provides traffic control using a stop/slow sign or flag.
• Applies herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds.
• Routinely lifts up to 80 pounds and may lift up to 100 pounds.
